About me!

A short synopsis of my path and what I have accomplished so far.

Hi! My name is Akshit Monga, and I am a Biomedical Engineer (BME) pursuing my B.S. at San Jose State University. From a very young age, I have always been interested in science and tech. Some of my oldest memories include playing rollercoaster simulator on PBS kids, teaching me about potential and kinetic energy, and the colony builder teaching me how cells multiply and microbiomes. I fostered my interest by starting my own biology and science club, eventually leading my team to win our first Tech Challenge among 800 teams, for our engineering design in wind energy. While stuck at home in 2020, I forayed into computer science, using Arduinos and 3D printing to fuel my passion projects, such as fingerprint locks or automated robots. I continue to pursue these interests at SJSU, joining the Biomedical Engineering Society at SJSU, and using my skill in 3D modeling and programming to design and model medical devices in the field. In my free time, one can often find me running, biking, in the gym, playing guitar, hanging out with my friends, or catching up on recent shows!

Why BME?

As a child, I had grown up watching most of my family struggle with heart disease and face major complications with their health. In critical moments, they only survived with the help of medical devices such as stents and IED’s. As a child, advancements such as these amazed me, and had a profound effect on my goal in life. Going forward, I would like to develop devices that can potentially save or better people’s lives in the same way they did for my family. Biomedical engineering became the perfect way to combine my passions, goals, and career, intertwining chemistry, physics, and biology with computer science, while bettering lives along the way.
